Orbital Chronograph

from $14,000.00

In late 2023 I got an email from someone expressing interest in purchasing one of my second edition Model 255 watches. It came from an individual who works for a government agency best known for putting brave souls on top of missiles and blasting them outside of earths atmosphere.

That agency was NASA.

In my reply to this astronaut I suggested, rather ambitiously, that if something I made was going get hurled into space and spend eight months aboard the ISS, it might as well be something special.

And thus began a five month exchange of notes and emails discussing functionality needed, design ideas and prototyping. An initial functional prototype watch was finished in time for testing and a scheduled launch in August of 2024.

When this launch got delayed I had time to make a few changes. Those few changes escalated into a complete overhaul of the prototype and we ended up with a more refined, thinner, lighter and all around better final version.

The Orbital Chronograph launched on a six month mission to the ISS with Commander Zena Cardman an August 1st 2025.

Two versions of this watch are available.

The Flight Version was specifically designed for a smaller wrist and has a lug to lug measurement of 46mm. It was also optimized for its space flight mission wth specific attention paid to reducing mass. The underside of the lugs and any material not needed on the inside of the case around the movement are machined hollow. There’s material removed from the dial and movement spacer. Total weight is 59g.

The Orbital Chronograph Terra Version is available in an edition of nine. The case design remains the same as the Flight Version with a few minor changes. The lugs have a less extreme downward curve and lug spacing is increased to 47mm. For terrestrial use weight isn’t much of a consideration so this version tips the scales at 64.5g. Still very light for a chronograph. Just not astronaut light :)

A very tight production and test schedule on the Flight Version of the Orbital Chronograph meant that the finished watch had to ship out before I had time to take proper photographs. These few snaps from my phone will have to do till it returns to earth in 2026.

More photos will be available when I finish the next Flight Version and first Terra Version.

As a single human watchmaking factory the delivery time of your timepiece is somewhat flexible. I’m slowly streamlining the process of standardizing parts and tools to speed up the manufacturing but even still, expect three to eight months from order to delivery. Maybe less. Maybe a lil bit more. I’ll keep you in the loop.
